Niche Productions is proud to present the triumphant return of US funk/party kings Breakestra with fellow Californian, turntable master J-Rocc. Making their last visit to Australia in 2006, Breakestra return in early 2010 to celebrate the launch of their new album ‘Dusk Til Dawn’.

A favourite amongst Aussie funk and soul aficionados, Breakestra released their first full length studio album ‘Hit The Floor’ through Ubiquity in 2005 and toured the globe in support – making their Australian debut in 2006. The brain child of industry all rounder “Musicman” Miles Tackett, Breakestra was born out of jams at a local LA Coffee house ‘The Breaks’ in 1996.

‘Dusk Til Dawn’ will keep fans dosed up on their funk quotas including breakbeat jam ‘Dark Clouds Rain Soul’ and Stones Throw single ‘Low Down Stank’ as well as featuring a brand new vocalist Afrodyete on the soulful ‘Come On Over’, not to mention ‘No Matter Where You Go’, which pays homage to the funkiest singers and bands from around the globe that are kicking on today.

‘Dusk ‘Til Dawn’ is also a tribute to Tackett’s late DJ partner from Rootdown night club in LA, DJ Dusk, whose life was tragically taken in a road accident in 2007. Dusk himself appears alongside Jurassic 5 bass master Chali 2na on the funky rap joint ‘Posed To Be’, a fitting tribute to such a respected member of the LA scene.

Currently working on his solo album for the Stones Throw label, turntablist J-Rocc first began DJing in the mid 80s, eventually forming the Beat Junkies with Melo-D and Rhettmatic in 1992. Soon after forming, the Beat Junkies became one of the driving forces of instrumental hip-hop including core member Babu plus future stars Shortkut and D-Styles.

In addition to numerous mixtapes and his own production for Stones Throw releases, J-Rocc has been the DJ for Madlib's live shows since the early 2000's as well as the third member of Jaylib (Madlib & J Dilla) during the group's live events, and collaborated with Madlib on ‘Beat Konducta Vol. 5-6: A Tribute to J Dilla’.

Don’t miss the chance to see some of the finest names in funk and hip-hop playing around the country together with local supports.
