Niche Productions is proud to present a night of the freshest raw funk and soul, hitting The Basement on Saturday 21 August with Adelaide’s The Transatlantics and vinyl master Kon from the legendary Kon & Amir.

The Transatlantics are one of Adelaide’s finest exports, forming a few years back and taking inspiration from modern soul artists including Sharon Jones and The Daptone family as well as classic soul labels such as Stax, Hi and Motown. Their sound invokes the grainy warmth of southern American Soul and the rhythmic grunt of classic James Brown-era funk.

Already making their mark at home in Adelaide and around the country, The Transatlantics are launching their debut album through Freestyle Records. Having supported Funk and Soul royalty including Fred Wesley, Marva Whitney and Melbourne’s own The Bamboos, The Transatlantics have also played the likes of Big Day Out and Playground Weekender.

One of the finest vinyl trawlers on the planet, Kon of Kon & Amir has been in the game since he was 13 years old and begged his grandmother for his first mixer. At this ripe age, Kon began putting his already impressive vinyl collection to work and went on to meet music making partner Amir at Boston’s Biscuithead Records in 1996 while shopping for breaks.

Since 1997 the pair have released an abundance of albums and more recently accepted a five record deal with BBE/Rapster to begin the ‘Off Track’ series, which builds off their highly successful ‘On Track’ series. Now spreading the good word on his own, Kon is touring the country ripping up good tunes before the release of Kon and Amir’s next installation of ‘Off Track’.

Join us for a special night of funk, soul and rare grooves as some of the sharpest names in local an international talent play this intimate show.
