DaM-Funk Sydney Solo Show

January 2011
Tone, Sydney

After his sold-out Australian debut in May 2010, The Ambassador of Boogie Funk – DâM-FunK, returns to welcome the New Year with style, playing an intimate show at Tone on Thursday 6 January.

Releasing his debut offering ‘Toeachhizown’ in 2009 through Stones Throw, DâMFunK (that’s ‘Dame’, as in Damon) has been taking audiences by storm all over the world with his DJ/Selector type shows – complete with Keytar, receiving rave reviews for the energy and demeanour he brings to his live performances.

Recently releasing a collection of forgotten recordings from his teenage years, ‘Adolescent Funk’ features tracks recorded by DâM in his teenage years between 1988 – 1992, all originally recorded on cassette tape!
Though new to many, DâM-FunK may seem an emerging artist merely influenced by the Golden era of Electro-funk, but DâM is the real deal. He has been recording for himself for two decades, developing his work to his own taste, and using equipment like the Korg M1, Linn Drum, and Casio SK-1 since the days when many other musicians considered them novelty electronics rather than instruments.

DâM-FunK is currently working on his new studio album – due for release in early 2011.

In a Hip-Hop world of free mixtapes, the album format seems to be dying. Recent ‘mixtapes’ (they’re rarely mixed) like the excellent Danny Brown’s XXX on Fools Gold...
