Due to the cancellation of BBQ beats, Niche Productions is proud to present Roots Manuva, Amp Fiddler, The Nextmen featuring MC Wreck and Thunderheist with local supports, together at the Hi-Fi on New Year’s Day 2010.
Now in its second year Days Like This! is the hot new comer on the Sydney festival scene, boasting a fresh and diverse line-up featuring the likes of UK hiphop sensation Roots Manuva, Detroit soul champion Amp Fiddler, UK club duo The Nextmen and Canadian techno-pop duo Thunderheist. Niche Productions brings these four artists from the Days Like This! bill to Brisbane to start 2010 off with a bang.
Releasing his fourth studio album ‘Slime & Reason’ to rave reviews last year, Roots Manuva is heading back to Australia with his six piece band to wow audiences with tracks from the new album which gained rave reviews here and around the world including being Triple J’s album of the week.
Mixing reggae, dub, hip hop and everything in between, Roots Manuva made his recording debut in 1994 which eventually led to signing with UK institution Ninja Tune’s hip hop extension Big Dada and releasing his debut album ‘Brand New Second Hand’ in 1999. Since then, Roots Manuva has gone on to release a handful of studio and remix albums, toured the globe and not to mention collaborated with a mixed bag of artists including Chali 2NA, The Cinematic Orchestra, Gorillaz and Ninja Tune label mate Mr Scruff.
Amp Fiddler, back with his full band, is one of the hottest soul acts on the scene today, having played with everyone from Prince and George Clinton to Primal Scream and underground Detroit producer Moodyman. To date he’s released three full albums – the latest being ‘Afro Strut’ in 2006 and ‘Inspiration Information’ with legends Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare in 2008.
Recording in Kingston, Jamaica ‘Inspiration Information’ was recorded over just three days with overdubs done a week later in Detroit. The result, is a very fine album reminiscent of 70s and 80s Sly & Robbie with a fresh approach.
Amp Fiddler made his last trip to Australia at the beginning of 2008 and has since been touring the globe with his band including a tour of East Africa and playing at festivals all over the world.
Critically acclaimed UK production/songwriting duo The Nextmen, consisting of Dom Search & Brad Baloo, return to Australia with their fourth studio album ‘Join The Dots’. Released in August this year The Nextmen will grace the stage at Days Like This! in true epic form, with grand hip hop drum sets combined with killer electronic basslines!
Also appearing on the day will be Canadian electro pop duo Thunderheist. Comprising of Nigerian-born Isis on vocals and producer Grahm Zilla, Thunderheist played their debut performance in 2006, and released their self titled debut album earlier this year through Big Dada.
Start your 2010 off right with the Days Like This! Satellite show at the Hi-Fi on New Year’s Day.
