Continuing on from their exciting summer tours including DaM-FunK, Aloe Blacc & The Grand Scheme, Mayer Hawthorne & The County and Roy Ayers – Niche Productions presents Ladi6, hitting the East Coast April 2011.
Getting her start with seminal all-girl crew Sheelahroc, Ladi6 is New Zealand’s first lady of hip-hop. Releasing her debut solo album Time Is Not Much (produced by Fat Freddy’s Drop’s DJ Mu and later released by UK label BBE) in 2008, Ladi along with her musical partner/producer DJ Parks have been on a whirlwind advernture over the past 12 months including relocating to Berlin for sixty tour dates across Europe supporting the likes of Gil-Scott Heron, Masta Ace and Mayer Hawthorne.
Amongst all this touring, Ladi was busy working on her follow up offeringThe Liberation Of… which showcases her maturity as an artist and songwriter, gaining rave reviews all across New Zealand and now set for release in Australia in May. Since returning from Europe late last year, Ladi’s live show has expanded to feature dynamic New Zealand DJ/producer Julien Dyne as well as DJ Parks. With her new album just around the corner this will be one of the first chances to hear it live for hungry Australian audiences.
In Sydney and Melbourne, Ladi6 will be joined by countrymen Electric Wire Hustle, a stellar three-piece who combine heavy head-nod beats with vintage soul vocals and shuddering basslines using bass, drums, keys and an array of sequencers and samplers.
