As executive producer of Slum Village’s ‘Fan-Tas-Tic Vol 1’ album, Waajeed, along with Detroit producer J Dilla (R.I.P), introduced the world to a new chapter in the famed Motor City’s rich lineage of music history. Like Motown Records and Atkins/May/Saunderson’s Techno before it, Detroit Hip Hop is extremely soulful and features beats and verses that hang way in the pocket, giving it a very distinct feel. As one half of PPP aka Ubiquity Records’ Platinum Pied Pipers, Waajeed has helped steer the ship for contemporary soul music, providing the backbone for such modern hits like ‘On A Cloud’, ‘Stay With Me’ and ‘Shotgun.’ As comfortable behind the decks playing freestyle or Hip Hop as he is playing House or Techno, Waajeed is also no slacker behind the boards, contributing sick remixes of late for Mayer Hawthorne, Onra and Ana Tijoux, who he is currently producing an album for in Chile.
