Martyn - Masks (Brainfeeder)

You cannot stop a man like Martyn. He really did wonderful things with his debut LP Great Lengths a few years ago and looks set to reach an even bigger audience now that his second record Ghost People has been announced as coming out on Brainfeeder. By the time you read this, you’ll be able to cop the lead single Masks which is a very intelligent slice of tech-House, but it’s undeniably Martyn. The b-side, too is a beauty and comes in both a beatless version and a more chunky effort, in the London’ Arches edit of Viper. I am told the album similarly follows Great Lengths, in that there’s a range of tempos to be found, so Dubstep heads should not fret on this 4-4 introduction. Anticipated, much?
In other Martyn-related news, his label 3024 keeps putting out great releases, including an obvious push on releases that are true to some of the old school aesthetics of Techno and Electro. Keep an ear out for the Jon Convex’s (Instra:mental) Convexations and the split Instra:mental and Trevino single Pryamid/Chip single, which really goes for it, in terms of big, main room style vibes that are true to the spirit of those classics records without relying too heavily on modern techniques like multi-toned kicks or scattered drum patterns.
