Paul White - The Strange Dreams Of Paul White (One Handed)
The Strange Dreams of Paul White is an artist album out now on the ever-essential One Handed Music label that has been stuck on perma-repeat on my iPod for about a month now. Available in a great pillow-cased edition, Paul White is one of those beat producers who layers all the elements so densely you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s just one sample with a beat on top of it, but as you peel them away, you’ll find he’s on some DJ Shadow isht on some of the tracks. It’s a must for fans of Exile’s Radio album, but there ain’t no biting going on here. I do get the same feeling when I listen to both records, though. It’s music that is melodically very strong that pulls and pushes you twenty ways before you know where you’re going to or at least what direction the producer is trying to take you. With loads of psychedelic and garage style references, give this record to your indie friends who hate ‘the beats’, cos they’ll love it.
