Pursuit Grooves - Foxtrot Mannerisms (Tectonic)
New York based producer Pursuit Grooves first ‘officially’ hit the radar as part of the graduating class of Red Bull Music Academy’s 2008 programme, although she’d previously been heard on the Beat Dimensions 1 compilation amongst other self released projects. Her new mini album Foxtrot Mannerisms sees her musicality and depth of production reaching lofty new heights and as such, those good people at Tectonic have picked it up for a worldwide release. Flanked by airplay on the gorgeously spacey Whisper, it was a thrill to find so many other gems on there, with the producer singing and rapping over tracks that fit genres for the beat-heads, dubsteppers, Mathew Herbert style shufflers and more. It’s quite hard to classify, in fact, with the producer almost creating a whole new style of her own. If you like electronica that’s not afraid to push a few boundaries but still but an enjoyable listen that knows when to pull in on the reins, check Pursuit Grooves’ Foxtrot Mannerisms, it’s gonna be one of the big surprise releases of the year.
