Ritchy Pitch - Ye Fre Mi Ritchy Pitch (BBE)

Ye Fre Mi Richy Pitch firstly needs to be heralded for the courage it takes for both a producer and a label to put out a record that is largely non-English with no trendy guest vocalists from a below-the-radar DJ-Producer like Pitch. Due out at the beginning of June and preceded by the not-so-African-sounding single Black Star, Ye Fre Mi Richy Pitch is that truly special blend of forward thinking and respect for tradition resulting in something that’s altogether unique. You could be forgiven for thinking it’s a Hip Hop record with the debut single being a more straight-up rap song that constantly changes tempo and that there should be the hint that the longplayer is anything but conventional. The album weaves between Highlife influenced bounce music, bashment, Hip Hop, Afrobeat and traditional Folky sounds it should fit nicely next to records by Mr Scruff, Louie Vega, Nickodemus or even, at times Major Lazer with some songs just begging for extended remix packages.
