V/A - Wild Angels presented by Mary Anne Hobbs
If you like your beats all weird, wild, wobbly and experimental then no doubt you are familiar with Mary Anne Hobbs of BBC Radio One fame. I must admit, I’ve always checked more for Gilles and Benji B’s take on this sort of stuff in the past but thanks to her new compilation Wild Angels on Planet Mu I’ll be tuning in regularly to her Thursday midday (our time) program. Filled with mainly Planet Mu related acts, she builds an eery ambience before going for the jugular in what could be one of the year’s best bass music comps. Tracks from Mark Pritchard and Hudmo are coupled with the likes Floating Points, Starkey and Tranqill, so no need to tell you it’s really a current ‘best of’ but it’s the fact it’s programmed so nicely is what makes it such a standout snapshot of the scene as it stands…
