V/A - Burnt Progress 2.1
A few years ago Tony Nwachukwu of Attica Blues fame came to Australia to spruke the Red Bull Music Academy and establish the new budding-producers night CDR. His own Burnt Progress has developed from a good idea, to a compilation to a fully fledged label as the 2CD Burnt Progress 2.1 effort is released around about now. Not for the faint hearted at all, taking in the likes of Bullion, Paul White, iisiJii, Simbad, Mr Beatnik, Steve Spacek and many more. It covers so many genres successfully that it’s almost weird to think this is a works-in-progress joint or an up and comers effort. For example, Bullion’s speaker-smashing Get Familiar opens things up and if that song hasn’t almost single-handedly lit a fire up the arse of ‘electronica’ then I don’t know what has or will. It’s been a great year for this kind of music and fans are recommended to check out albums by Harmonic 313 (and the new video clip for Battlestar), Dorian Concept and compilations like Maverick Sessions 1 (U Beat) and Blu Jemz Beat Machine which features exclusives from Waajeed, Karriem Riggins, Flylo, Mike Slot and many more.
