Release
Various (Compiled by Joey Negro) - Back Street Brit Funk (Z)
I think Joey Negro must be the busiest man in the UK, the way he’s busting out big house tunes under a number of guises but still having time to unearth classic Boogie and Street Funk as he’s done in the past with compilations like Locked In The Vinyl Cellar and Destination Boogie and currently the Back Street Brit Funk compile which you can get from his Z Records online shop now (presumably with a wider CD and digital release to follow shortly). These are the sort of comps I buy unheard and would probably nab even before the rent is paid because they’re so good and with a previously released gem in there rarely to be heard. Choosing to just highlight the best of British Boogie, the only really recognisable names on there are Hudson People and Incognito but the winners are most definitely the unknowns. Special shout-out to the instrumental cover of David Bendeth’s Feel The Real by Adrenalin. It’s no secret that the Brits love this kind of music when considering their adaptation of these sounds gradually turned in to Acid Jazz and this compilation easily joins the dots for those discovering the sounds currently being championed by the likes of Dam-Funk and our own Gian Arpino.
